Dr Kaushik is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and an ultrasound specialist who has worked exclusively in women's imaging since 2004.
Dr Kaushik completed her Medical Degree at the University of Tasmania in 1996 whereupon she started her internship at The Canberra Hospital in the ACT. She began her registrar training as a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with Sydney South West Area Health. Her first appointment was in Campbelltown in year 2000 as a first year registrar. After completing her membership examinations in 2004 she was appointed as a fellow in the Fetal medicine unit (FMU) at Liverpool Hospital. In this tertiary centre of fetal diagnosis and treatment she gained experience in fetal conditions such as growth restriction caused by placental insufficiency and monitoring monchorionic twins. She also had an opportunity to be involved in fetal in utero therapy such as blood transfusions.
It was at this point that Dr Kaushik decided to focus on ultrasound and took an ultrasound fellowship at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney. In this two year fellowship she gained experience in working with children and adolescent Gynaecology. She developed special skills to perform stress free examinations on young women. She also collaborated with the oncology and general gynaecology unit in order to broaden her expertise. Her zeal for learning and her warm compassionate personality has made her a unique specialist who can deliver focussed medical care for women at all stages of life. During this time she also completed her diploma of diagnostic ultrasound.
She has worked in many private practices as well as held consultant appointments in Department of Medical Imaging at Royal Hospital for Women (Randwick) and in Westmead Hospital. Dr Kaushik is committed to providing a professional quality service in a supportive environment. She feels that the usual approach where the scan is done with the medical report handed to the patient in a sealed envelope is not ideal. The whole process of having an ultrasound which can be a stressful itself and not understading of the the results can produce undue anxiety. Most current private scan centers do not address this issue and so TARA was born literally. After the birth of her fourth child (named Tara) the concept of TARA was finally realised. She is available at all times onsite at TARA . Every woman having a scan is offered a consultation as part of every scan where they have the opportunity to ask questions for which there is no additional fee.
Dr Kaushik brings with her an extensive knowledge of 3D/4D scanning techniques and expertise in both Gynaecological imaging and fetal medicine. She is particularly interested in the use of 3D/4D in scans to maximise the diagnostic benefits and to increase parental bonding in pregnancy scans. 3D/4D technology can also provide a better assessment of the uterine cavity abnormalities that provide insight into adolescent gynaecological conditions or fertility studies.
Dr Kaushik is passionate about providing care to women who have special needs or who are apprehensive about ultrasound examination. She takes special care during ultrasound guided procedures to make sure the experience is non traumatic.
